Is the use of BIM competitive advantage?

We must then once answer the question in the first approach, who to whom when and where is competing.

We need to be about the time and place of action ideas. The effective date I take the point at which my articles appear. From today we can look back and forward. As the scene I suppose Germany. Although I think more than Europeans and now and then also as global citizens in many ways, it simplifies the answer to the question, if I reduce my reflections on Germany.

The time and place are already critical. The current situation in which we find ourselves corresponds to the situation in which, for example, the US, Norway, Finland, Australia and other nations have been six or seven years ago. These nations have towards Germany a competitive advantage. To me it is not about the global viewing.

It’s more to me a matter of comparing two planners in Germany. One is already working with BIM and the other not. Both make an offer for a project. The one makes a rough cost estimate and the BIM experienced can already make an offer on the basis of a detailed cost estimate. Both services reach the clients at the same time. Which offer the client more familiar? I at least would rather enter with the directions in the discussion, which can provide more concrete data to me already. How should I discuss alternatives if he can give me a rough estimate of a variant to the other directions. The example is perhaps a little too simple, but it is to show that an accomplished with BIM Planner earlier comes into viable statements much and therefore has a competitive advantage.

We are currently in Germany in his early BIM phase. Those who are already working with BIM, use their competitive advantage. The advantage is even greater when the client from the outset prescribes the use of BIM.

Now we look again in the year 2017. The German BIM guidelines are created and more and more companies are using BIM and more and more building owners write BIM ago. The use of BIM is still in the phase in which it clearly is a competitive advantage. Germany had more experience. Now we are in 2020. The view is changing a little now. Not the use of BIM is now a competitive advantage, but the non-use of BIM now represents an enormous competitive disadvantage.

But the question is changing a little now. Now we have to ask the question „In which case, the use of BIM represents a competitive advantage?“. If all companies use BIM, you must begin to question the way the use of BIM. The building owners then write not only the use of BIM in front, but also have higher demands on the quality of BIM and concerning the composition of BIM team. The still sufficient evidence in 2020 of a simple BIM Certification is when we look a little further into the future, no longer sufficient. A certification applies only the statement „managed“ or „failed“.

Currently the use of BIM is a competitive advantage. In five years, I speak it again to you to the issue of my BIMcheck and my BIMrating. Yet I leave you so alone. But who does not begin now as an entrepreneur in Germany with BIM, which must be in 2020 or later, no longer worry about a higher BIM qualification. Your companies are there then maybe. But the majority of your employees has then been looking after a BIM work in a future-oriented company.
